Softball was started in 1887. George Hancock, a reporter for the Chicago Board of Trade, was the person who started softball. He invented it as an indoor form of baseball because it was too cold to play outside. |

To play softball you will need a bucket of balls, a bat, and a glove. Softball is played with two teams both consisting of nine players. |

The rules of softball are fairly simple. They are mainly based on pitching, batting, base-running, fly balls, and sliding. The person who calls the plays and makes sure that everything is fair, is the umpire. |
