Softball was started in 1887.  George Hancock, a reporter for the Chicago Board of Trade, was the person who started softball.  He invented it as an indoor form of baseball because it was too cold to play outside.

To play softball you will need a bucket of balls, a bat, and a glove.  Softball is played with two teams both consisting of nine players.

How to Play Softball

The rules of softball are fairly simple.  They are mainly based on pitching, batting, base-running, fly balls, and sliding.  The person who calls the plays and makes sure that everything is fair, is the umpire.
