When you are playing softball you will need a couple balls, a bat, and a glove.  There are two teams, each consisting of nine players.  The games have seven innings, an inning is when a team is up at bat.

When a person is up at bat they can either get a ball, a strike, or hit the ball.  When the batter hits the ball, and the pitch was not good then it is considered a ball,  unless the person swings at it.  The batter gets four balls before they are walked which means they go to first base.  If the batter swings at the ball and they miss then it is a strike.  If you get three strikes you are out.  If you get three outs then then it is a new inning.      

There is an infield and an outfield.  The infield is where the bases are and where the batters run the bases.  There are four and they are in a diamond shape.  Each base is sixty feet apart.  The outfield is where outfielders are, they are the ones who catch the balls in the outfield.  The foul line is outside third and first base.   

When you are pitching you must always pitch underhand.  However there is more than one way you can pitch.  They are slow pitch and fast pitch.  The two main pitches are are the windmill and the slingshot.  

For a team to win in softball they can't only be good at batting, they must also be good at fielding.  So they can prevent the other team from getting runs.  In order for a team to be good at fielding they need to be able to catch fly balls and ground ball, and also throw the ball back when they get it.

When you are batting you should have your feet shoulder length apart and have them bent.  You should also remember to keep your eye on the ball.  You should have a bat that is not too heavy but not too light.
