On September 8, 1966, Star Trek aired on NBC.  Unknown to Gene Roddenberry, the creator, he had created a legacy.  Here are the main characters in this landmark show.

 Kirk

Captain James Tiberius Kirk is the daring, legendary captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise.  He is very strong-willed and is not afraid to do what is needed to save his crew and his ship.  He and his two best friends, Spock and Dr. McCoy are able to tackle any problem that comes their way.  He has a strong hatred to the Klingons because they killed his son.

Spock

Spock is the first officer aboard the Enterprise.  You may notice his pointed ears which signify that he is a Vulcan.  That means that he can suppress his emotions and he will try to find the most logical way out of situations.  In reality he is only half Vulcan and half Human so some emotions still come out.  He will argue anything with his friend Dr. McCoy.

McCoy

Dr. Leonard H. McCoy is the doctor aboard the Enterprise.  Sometimes referred to as "Bones" by Captain Kirk,  He can be very grumpy , but he is a excellent doctor.  He is in constant argument with his friend Spock.  In the series he has two famous lines.  They are,  "He's dead Jim"  and "I'm a doctor not a (blank)!"

Scotty

Montgomery Scott or Scotty is the chief engineer aboard the Enterprise.  As his name suggests, he is Scottish.  The philosophy he probably follows is "Use it up, wear it out, make it go, or do without."  He is considered a miracle worker because he can always make things work.

Sulu

Hikaru Sulu is the oriental helmsman of the Enterprise.  He becomes the captain of his own ship in the movies.  He is loyal to his captain and is a good person to have in a tense situation.

Chekov

Pavel A. Checkov is the young Russian navigator of the Enterprise.  He always confuse old fables and stories to Russian origin, like Cinderella.

Uhura

Uhura is the communications officer aboard the Enterprise.  She is very loyal to her captain.  Not much is known about her, except that her native language is Swahili and Uhura means freedom in English.
