In 1986 Paramount discovered that they had a great thing on their hands with the Star Trek movies.  They then decided to move back to television and make a new TV show set about 70 years after The Original Series.  The show was entitled The Next Generation.  Here are the main characters.

Picard

Captain Jean-Luc Picard is the French captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise D.  He is as good as captain as their ever was.  Picard always wants to find peaceful and diplomatic ways out of tense situation, but he will not let up in a attack if need be.  He has strong hatred to the Borg, a cybernetic race, for kidnapping and assimilating him.

Riker

Commander William Thomas Riker is the first officer aboard the Enterprise.  He is a very capable officer and would make an excellent captain.  He is always concerned about the safety of his captain and shipmates.  He is very strong will, but will carryout Picard's orders unless they would harm Picard or a fellow crew member.  He gets promoted to captain of the Titan in the movie Nemesis

Data

Data is the ever popular android aboard the Enterprise.  He is a science officer.  Being an android, he has superior intelligence and strength, all thanks to his human creator, Dr. Noonien Soong.  One of his few faults is that he can not use contractions and feel emotions.  He has a cat named Spot, who is hated by most of the crew.

Worf

Worf is the only Klingon in Starfleet.  He is the security officer aboard the Enterprise.  Since he is a Klingon he has the signature ridges on his forehead and he has a strong sense of duty and honor.  He is very aggressive and won't hesitate to attack if he or a crewmate is in danger.  He was later posted on Deep Space Station 9.

Crusher

Dr. Beverly Crusher is the chief medical officer aboard the Enterprise.  She is a very good friend of captain Picard and she is a very capable officer.  Her husband, Jake, died many years ago while he was under Picard's command.  She has a son, Wesley, who is in the Starfleet academy.

LaForge

Geordi LaForge is the chief engineer on the Enterprise.  He is blind, but he has a special device called the VISOR that lets him see.  The VISOR stands for Vision Instrument and Sensory Organ Replacement.  He can actually see better than a regular human.  He is best friends with Data.

Troi

Deanna Troi is the ship's counselor.  She had a prior relationship with Commander Riker.  They finally got married in the movie Nemesis.  She is half Betazed so she can sense others feelings making her an excellent counselor.

Q

Q is the all-powerful annoyance of the Enterprise.  He is neither bad, nor is he good.  He is from the Q continuum, and he at first put humanity on trial for being a dangerous child race.  He is immortal and constantly testing humans.  He is also my favorite character.
