Lampreys are found in waters of both hemispheres. The adult is eel-like, with one or two dorsal fins and a simple caudle fin. The mouth is a disk adapted to suck blood, bearing a complex arrangement of horny teeth, these are relied very heavily in their specific classification.

Garfishes are long-bodied predators with the habit of lurking alongside submerged branches. They're characterized by their long jaws with many teeth and by their armor-like scales. Their swim bladder is connected to their esophagus. The alligator gar is the one of the largest North American freshwater fishes. One weighing over 135 kg. and 3m. long was caught in the state of Louisiana.
