| Paintball was started in 1977 by a drunk cattle herder who shot his nephew with a cattle marker. Paintball markers were actually originally ways to humanly brand cattle with permanent paint. | ![]() |

The first game was played in New Hampshire in 1986 buy 12 people. The picture at the left is the actual first players. The markers they used were pistols that used 12 gram CO2 cartridges. The ammunition was enamel paint with a gelatin shell. |
| Today, paintball is used anywhere from police training to war reenactments. To the right is a reenactment of D-Day. It included 1,500 people and 150 vehicles. The game was held in Utah and the field covered over 300 acres. | ![]() |
