Top Five Goalies of Today

Dominik Hasek started his career in 1991 with the Chicago Blackhawks.  In his first season he led his team into the playoffs and all the way to the Stanley Cup where they lost to the Penguins.  In 1998 he won the gold medal in the Olympic Games with the Check Republic.  He wanted more than a gold medal, he wanted to win the Stanley Cup.  In the 2001-2002 season he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings where they won the cup.  After that he retired, but came back this year (2003).  In his career he has won the award for best goalie six times.
Jose Theodore is one of the younger rising stars of the NHL.  In 2001-2002 he won the vezina (top goalie) award, and the hart trophy (league MVP).  In the 2002-2003 season he did not play very well and his team did not make the playoffs.  He has proven to be a top goaltender in the NHL and is very good with his legwork.  Hopefully he will play up to his potential in the years to come, and carry his team, the canadiens to the playoffs.  He is one of only six goalies to score a goal in the NHL.

Patrick Roy is one of the greatest goalies to ever play the game of hockey.  He has played in 1029 games and won 551 of them.  He plays best under pressure and when the season is on the line.  He has won four Stanley Cups altogether, two with the Montreal Canadiens and two with the Colorado Avalanche.  He has been selected to play in the All-star game 12 times and also won the top rookie award in the 1982-1983 season.  He has the most great accomplishments of any goalie, and will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame soon.
Martin Brodeur is the best goalie in the NHL today.  He has four 40 or more win seasons and is not too far behind Patrick Roy for most wins all time.  Brodeur has only been in the NHL for 12 compared to Roy's 17.  Brodeur has won three Stanley Cups, all for the New Jersey Devils.  He also hold the record for most shutouts in a playoff season, which is seven.  He has won the vezina twice and was the rookie of the year in his first season in the NHL.  There is a good chance he can lead the Devils into the playoffs again this year, and maybe to another Cup.
The last goalie on my top five list is Ed Belfour.  He is 38 years old but still can play very well.  He is the starting goalie for the Toronto Maple Leafs.  He has played for the Chicago Blackhawks, and the Dallas Stars.  He won two Stanley Cups with the Dallas Stars.  He was the top rookie in the IHL in 1988, and he was named Goalies World #1 goalie 3 times.
