Hockey Goaltending

The Goalie in hockey has the most important job, to stop the rubber disk called a puck from entering their net. They can do whatever they can so the puck doesn't go in the net. The goalie can give his team momentum by making a big save, and can also take away another teams momentum with a good save. Goalies also are blamed sometimes if their team looses so they always have to play their best. |

The NHL started in 1914 and back then they didn't have very protective equipment. They also did not wear masks. Now with new technology the equipment is very protective. |

The top five NHL goalies of all time are as follows: Dominik Hasek, Patrick Roy, Martin Brodeur, Jose Theodore, and also Eddy Belfour. These goalies are the best around and they can really get the job done in goal. |

The top five goalies of the past are, Terry Sawchuk, Jaques Plante, Ken Dryden, Grant Fuhr, and Tony Esposito. They were the top goalies of their time, and often took many shots to the face because they did not wear helmets. Playing goalie back then was a dangerous position with pucks traveling very fast and not good protection. |

Some goalies have incredible records that will never be broken. The goalies have worked very hard for most of the records and they will not be broken. Goalies have the most important position in any sport and have the most impact on a teams performance. In hockey goalies play the whole game, unlike the quarterback in football who can hand the ball off or take a break when the defense comes on. Hockey would not be as exciting to watch if there were no goalies in the game. |
