Synopsis
The movie Chicago is a dark, dangerous, and mysterious movie. It is about the Chicago fame. Also, how to get to the top and how to stay there. Which is very hard to do. But Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones) has managed to do so. She is a very popular night club singer and dancer in the 1920 Chicago, Illinois. But as for Roxie Hart, (Renee Zellweger) a young girl who will do anything to get to the top like Velma is not up there with her. Until Roxie ends up in a bad situation with her new boyfriend Fred Kasely. He is a con artist furniture salesmen who meets Roxie at the Onyx in downtown Chicago. Fred tells her that he can get her on the stage. But it turns out that Fred is a liar and just wanted to talk to Roxie. So Roxie is very upset about all of this an she kills him. So Fred is dead and Roxie wants her husband (who she is cheating on right now) do defend her and say that he was a burgler and that he shot him because he was going to hurt Roxie. But they get caught so Roxie goes to jail. It just so happens that she meets Velma Kelly there too. ANd she has to stay in a place called Murderesses Row. This is run by Matron Mama Morton (Queen Latifah). This is where all of the women murders stay in Chicago. And Velma killed her husband and sister so she ends up here too with Roxie. At the time Velma is getting ready for her trial. She has the best criminal lawyer in all of Chicago, Billy Flynn. He has never lost a case. But Billy Flynn's number one client is Billy Flynn. He doesn't really care about his client all he cares about is the money. So when Roxie gets put in jail he starts to forget about Velma and starts to concentrate on Roxie's case. Now Velma is far from the top and her and Roxie do not get along ver well. So Billy is making everyone believe that Roxie is innocent. Until a girl named Kitty (Lucy Liu) gets accused of murdering her husband and Billy starts to forget about Roxie. Then Roxie claims pregnancy and Billy gets back on track. They never really do say weather or not Roxie really is pregnant but it is obvious that she isn't. She only said this so that she could stay at the top of Billy's list. Then Velma tries to convince Roxie that they should do an act together. But Roxie isn't falling for Velma's tricks. Velma wants her do this so Velma will become famous also. But it doesn't happen until the end. Both of the girls are proven innocent and they do end up having an act together and it all works out. The movie Chicago was originally a Broadway musical. But then they decided to make it into a movie. But the movie is a little bit different from the musical Chicago.
