Ballet began in western Europe in the 1300's -1600's.  The first ballet performances were given in the courts of Renaissance Italy.

Ballet consists of flowing, styled, movements and positions with the head, arms, legs, and torso.  Ballet requires discipline, balance, strength, flexibility, and fluidity.
Training

Most girls begin training at the age of 8-10.  Usually after 3-5 years, they begin Pointe.  Pointe is an advanced ballet where you dance on your toes.  To become a ballerina, you must take classes.  A ballet class will start at the ballet barre, where you will do exercises to warm up and stretch your muscles.  The second part of class is called center practice, were you put moves with steps, leaps, and turns to music.

What to Wear

You should wear ballet or pointe shoes, a leotard, tights, and a skirt, shorts, or pants.
