Meet the card.  Magic cards are shaped like rectangles (no brainer).  On the back they have the distinctive Magic the Gathering logo.  On the front they have all sorts of things.  First the card is of a certain type.  By "type" I mean element.  there are 5 basic elements in the game of Magic.  These are "Mountain", "Island", "Plains", "Forest", and my personal favorite "Swamp".  All of which I'll tell you about later.  This is the back of a Magic card.

Creature cards-Creature cards are like monsters in Pokemon and Yugioh.  They have attack points and defense points listed in the bottom right hand corner though. The one on the left is attack, and the one on the right is defense.  The creature cards have a photo of the creature in the top middle and the name of the creature above it.  The name is to the left, while the mana cost is listed to the top right.  These cards also include the  creature's unique special effect in the middle below the picture if the creature even has one.  There is usually a fine print description at the bottom that has a story or description of that creature.   Here are some creature cards.

Sorceries are spells.  They can have numerous effects on you and your opponents.  They have names mana costs and pictures.  They also list the effects they do to whoever.  They do not have attack or defense points however though.  If they do damage then it is part of its unique This is a sorcery card.

Instants are one time cards.  they can only be used once just like sorceries, but they can be used on your opponent's turn!!!!  That is the good part, and well there is no bad part unless their effect is bad. (which it rarely is).  This is an instant.

Artifacts are like a type except they don't have any certain types for their mana cost.  they include...artifact creatures, and artifacts.  Artifacts are like enchantments in effect but they are colorless and don't need that annoying specified type of mana.  Artifact cards are such great cards that there are many cards specifically made to destroy them.  That's their only drawback    This is an artifact.

Enchantments are like  sorceries but  have permanent effects and stay on the field until any player or players' cards can destroy them.  They act as anything ranging from instants to sorceries to even creatures Here is an enchantment.

Island cards are good for a lot.  they can be used for defense, offence, random quick attacks, and just about any thing else.  They have no real specialty, but they good for most any thing. This is a blue land.  It symbolizes island.

Mountain cards are red in back ground and usually do direct damage to your opponent's creatures or your opponent's life points.  They often can be instants or sorceries.  The creatures include goblins barbarians dwarfs and beasts.  They usually are weak or cost a lot of mana to get out.  The cards usually effect lands with enchantments.

This is a red land. It symbolizes mountain.

Plains cards are light creamy colored or white.  They usually heal and give you life points.  White cards often have effects that protect them from certain types.  Black protection is their specialty.  Plains cards are  well known for negating effects of black or other elements of cards.  They can effect your opponents   This is a white land.  It symbolizes plains.

Black cards are rumored to be the strongest most threatening type of cards in the game by many players.  I can see why.  Their appearances can be hideous at times.  They are usually threatening to your life points if you use certain ones.  Most of them have the popular word "sacrifice" on them, and that is never a good thing for the person that the sacrifice targets.  But the draw back to this is the person that usually sacrifices is you.  But don't let that get you down.  Black cards have painful effects against your opponents too.  They often kill your opponents monsters directly, or can really effect them horribly.  So there is swamp for you.   This is a black land.  It symbolizes swamp.

Green cards are all about creature enhancement.  These cards have the majority of sorceries and enchantments.  The cards include many that say "target creature gets +whatever +whatever.  Their creatures are great too.  They often have little attack or defense but can easily be powered up.  This is a green land. It symbolizes forest.

Gold cards are very special cards.  They have mixed mana costs.  They can have extraordinary effects though.  They can be used in mixed decks.  These cards are usually rare or uncommon to find just anywhere.  There is not much to explain about these cards.  They explain themselves.  By the way, gold cards are NOT made of gold.

This is a gold card!!!
