SWIMMING

 

Swimming has been around for thousands of years, and is dated back to as late a 2500 B.C. Competitive swimming, however, did not begin until 1837.  Swimming was introduced to the Olympic games in 1896 for men, and in 1912  for women. Today, competitive swimmers compete all around the world.

In swimming there are a total of 32 events, 16 for men and 16 for women. Swimming has four main strokes, butterfly, backstroke, breastbone, and freestyle. Although swimming has been stereotyped as a "wimpy" sport in is most definitely not, swimmers train 4-7 hours per day 5-7 days a week.
