Walt Disney had the idea for a park based on movies more than 40 years ago, but it wasn't until May 1, 1989 that MGM Studios was built. MGM Studios has nearly doubled its size in the last 10 years. In 2001, MGM Studios was the focal point for the 100 Years of Magic Celebration. This celebration was the introduction for the Sorcerers Mickey Hat. Today MGM Studios has 18 attractions.

- Many television shows were taped at MGM Studios. They were: ER, Full House, Wheel of Fortune, ESPN College Football Awards, Talk Soup, Step by Step, Barbara Walters Special, and Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee.

- The HBO series "From Earth to the Moon" was in production in 2 sound stages throughout 1997.
