The Pittsburgh Steelers
franchise began in the 1930's, by a man named Art (Arthur) Rooney.
The Steelers first name was the Pirates. Then in 1941 they changed
their names to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers didn't have a winning season until 1942. Then not again until 1962. |
|
Super Bowl Champs! The Steelers were the team of the 70's. They won Super Bowl IX over the Vikings. They won three Super Bowls in those 5 years. They beat the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl X and then again in Super Bowl XIII.
|
Rooney hired Chuck Noll as the Steelers 14th head coach. In the 1970 NFL Draft, Noll selected Louisiana Tech quarterback, Terry Bradshaw. Then in 1972, Noll selected the running back from Penn St., Franco Harris. |
| The Steelers made the Playoffs off and on in the 80's. But they didn't make it to the Super Bowl until 1995. The Steelers lost to their great rivalry the Dallas Cowboys. The Steelers are still now one of the best teams in the NFL. They make the Playoffs every year. | |
| The Steelers won the AFC Central in 1972. They beat the Raiders in the first game all thanks to Franco Harris's "Immaculate Reception". But then they lost the next game to the Miami Dolphins. | |
