Soccer is a fast-paced game play on a large grass field by two teams of 11 players each.  The object of the game is for the players to try and maneuver the ball into the opponents net to score points, called goals.  Soccer can be one of the most exhilarating  and fun games to play, if you know the rules and play by them.
     The field is divided into two halves and at each end is a rectangular structure, the goal.  When you score, your team receives one point.  The victor is determined by who has the most points at the end of two halves, which the times vary for your age.  They can range any where from 30 minutes to 45 minutes.  Time is added for any stoppage throughout the game.  The rules of the game are carried out by 3 referees.  One ref will be on the field.  He or she is the main ref.

     Then there are two sideline refs to call when the ball goes out of bounces, or out of the designated area of play.  He or she also calls off sides.  Off sides is when a player from the other team is on the opponents side of the field and is behind the last player and doesn't have the ball.  When this happens the other team gets the ball.  When the ball goes out of play the other team throws the ball in from behind their head.  If the ball goes out of bounces on the goal line the other team receives a Corner Kick, or or your team gets a Goal Kick depending on who kicked the ball out.
     In Soccer you are allowed to touch the ball with any part of your body except your arms and hands.  The only player that is allowed to use their hands are the keepers who defend the goal.  When a foul has been committed, such as a tripping, pushing, a hand ball, and punching the other team gets a free kick from where the foul is committed.  If a foul is committed in the goal box, which is designated on the field, the other team receives a penalty kick.  This means one player gets to take a shot on goal with only the goalie.  The goalie is not allowed to move off the line in this circumstance.

     If a more severe foul is committed the player or coach could receive a yellow card.  That is a warning and their next offense could get them thrown out of the play.  If you receive a red card that means you are playing way too dirty and being unsportsman like.  Red cards don't occur a lot in younger age groups , they are given out more in high school college level of play.

     Some offenses that would make you receive a red card are:

* Foul language

* Consistently punching or hurting someone

* Talking back to the referee

* Fighting and many more

                    Soccer when played clean and professionally is one of the most fun games you'll play, I feel.  So go outside and follow the rules and have a blast doing it!
