Soccer has been around for many years and dated back all the way to the Roman Times.  Since then Soccer has spread throughout the world like a contagious disease.  Many forms of Soccer have been seen throughout the world.  One form was played in The settlement of Jamestown in 1609.  The first play of Soccer was between major universities, such as Harvard and Princeton, during the early 1800's.  The sport of Soccer officially began in England during the  mid-19th century.  Since then Soccer has evolved from playing with a rubber ball to high-tech gear.

    The form of Soccer we know and have come to love came from England to the United States some time in the early 1830's.  When Soccer started in The United States only school boys and IV league schools took it up.  The first known Soccer Club of America was called Oneida Soccer Club and it was based out of Boston.  After this, Soccer began to evolve and spread infectiously throughout the major universities.  Some of these universities were Yale, Columbia, Cornell, and once again Harvard.  The 1920's was very good for Soccer.  It has now been called the Golden Era, since the founding of the American Soccer league was during that decade.

    One tournament that every Soccer fan has come to love is The World Cup.  The World is an enormous tournament in which countries from all around the world participate in.  The first World Cup was played in 1930.  Some of the first winners were:

* Uruguay in 1930 and 1950

* Italy in1934 and 1938

* West Germany in 1954

* Brazil in 1958 and 1962

* England in 1966
