Pro Highlights:

He is a crafty Wide Receiver who flourished to be one of the teams best.  He was selected to the 2003 Pro Bowl, his 2nd consecutive trip.  Selected the Associated Press's second - team  All - Pro squad.  Led the team in receptions for 3 straight years.  His own team record is 112 receptions.  Also, finished 4 yards ahead of Plaxico Burress fot team - high passing average honors 1,329.  Won the 2002 Chief Award.  Which is an award to the player who gives the best example of spirit of cooperation.  For 2 straight seasons passed 1,000 yard mark.

 

2002 Season:

He started off the season with 7 catches for 92 yards.  October 13th he moved pass Charles Johnson into 6th place on the Steeler's all - time career receiving list.  Led the team in receptions 6 times.  November 24th passed 1,000 receiving yards.  2002 Statistics:

- 1,329 receiving yards

-12 touchdowns

- 12 rushing attempts

2001 Season:

The first week of the season he had 7 catches for 82 yards.  October 29, he threw his first pass of the season.  Took a direct snap from shotgun formation and ran for 36 yards against Tennessee.  December 9th against the N.Y. Jets, moved into 12th place on the Steeler's all - time receptions list with 203 career receptions.  Ward ended the season with:

- 94 receptions

- 1,003 receiving yards

- 3 Touch downs

- 10 rushing attempts

- 83 rushing yards

 

 

2000 Season:

He led the team in receptions.  Made his first start of the season September 3rd against Cleveland.  October 15th he caught a 77 yard pass, which was the longest pass play by the Steelers since the 1994 season.

- 48 receptions

- 672 receiving yards

- 4 rushing attempts

- 53 rushing yards

- 7 kickoff returns

- 186 kickoff return yards

 

 

1999 Season:

He started in 14 of 16 games.  The first game of the season he had the longest reception of 42 yards.  Also, in the season opener he had his first career touchdown.  November 21st he had his best game as a pro ( to that point) setting single - game highs for receptions and receiving yards verse Cinncinati.  By the end of the season he scored a team - high of 7 touchdown receptions.

1998 Season;

He had the first reception of his career at the season opener in Baltimore.  He was excellent on special teams.  October 26, had the best day at that point of his rookie season on offense against Green Bay.  Averaged team - high 16.4 yards a reception.  Also, registered 28 Special Teams tackles and was ranked 2nd on the team.

College:

Finished career ranked 2nd in school history with 144 receptions.  Ranked 3rd in team history with 1,965 career receiving yards.  Was a 1997 All - American choice by The Poor Man's guide to the NFL draft.  As a senior led the team with 55 receptions for 715 yards and 6 touchdowns.  Also, earned All - Southeastern Conference Honors as a Senior.  Named SEC Offensive Player of the Week after catching 9 passes for 175 yards.  Selected to the All - SEC Freshmen team by the Knoxville News - Sentinel.  Earned Bachelor's degree in Consumer Economics.

 

 

 

Personal:

In High School: earned All - American honors from Super Prep, Chip Illustrated and USA today.  Also, received All - State and Super Southern Top 100 Honors at Forest Park Georgia.  During his 3 year career:  threw 3,581 yards, 38 touchdowns, rushed for 2,500 yards and 29 touchdowns.  Full name:  Hines Ward Jr.
