Pro Highlights:

He was very impressive right away.  He was selected as the 2001 NFL Defensive rookie of the year, the first Steeler to earn this since Jack Lambert in 1974.  Also, was named the Sporting News' Defensive Rookie of the Year award.  Was selected as a recipitent for the 2001 Joe Greene Award.  Bell was named the Rookie of the Month for October and November, only the second person to recieve the award for 2 consecutive months.  Jevon Kearse was the first person.  Also, he was the first - alternate selection to the 2002 and 2003 Pro Bowl!

 

2002 Season:

Bell, saw limited action in the season opener.  Then was out of the starting lineup for 4 straight weeks because of an ankle injury.  Ocober 21 st he returned to the lineup against the Colts.  He finished the game with 5 tackles, 3 were solo.  Bell continued to be an outstanding linebacker the rest of the season.  Towards the end of December he left the game vs. Baltimore with an ankle injury.  He came back the next week with a surprise recovery.  He had an incredible game vs. Cleveland with 9 tackles ( 8 solo ) and 2  1/2  tackles for a loss.  The next week at Tennessee he saw limited action because of his injury.

2001 Season:

Kendrell, started his first game as a pro, but saw limited action because of a sprained right ankle.  He returned to the lineup 2 weeks later at Buffalo.  At Buffalo he made 12 tackles, 11 of them were solo and was also credited with 2 quarterback hurries/pressures.  The rest of the season he had a range from 3-12 tackles a game.  He did not have any injuries the rest of the season and played extremely well in every game.  Kendrell ended the 2001 season with:

88 tackles: 74 solo, 14 assisted

Sacks: 9

Forced Fumbles: 2

 

 

College:

He was the leader of Georgia's defensive unit.  Had 5 blocked kicks, on special teams.  Bell only started 16 games.  Finished his University of Georgia career with:

-153 tackles ( 95 solo)

- 7 quarterback sacks

- 10 stops behind the line of scrimmage

- 5 forced fumbles

- 14 quarterback pressures

In 2000, he was an All-American Dream Team by the Sports Xchange and an All-Southeastern Conference Second - team pick.  Bell, started the final 10 games at the middle linebacker.  Finished second on the team with 92 tackles ( 53 solos).  Had 2 sacks, 5 stops for losses, caused and recovered 2 fumbles, intercepted a pass and deflected 3 passes.  In 1999 was the teams 4th leading tackler with 61 tackles.  He did not start until the 6th game.  He set a school single-season record with 5 blocked kicks.  Also, he was a Super Prep JUCO 100 selection during his 2 year career at Middle Georgia Junior College.  In 1998 he was ranked 1st in the nation with 132 tackles and 6 sacks.  In 1997 he played full - back and gained 689 yards.  Bell majored in Child and Family development.

 

 

 

Personal:

He attended Laney High in Augusta, GA where he lettered in Football.  He was coached by Otis Smart in football.  Also, he lettered in Basketball and Track.  He finished 5th in the state in the shot put as a senior.  His full name is Kendrell Alexander Bell.  He is the son of Henry and Barbara Booker.
