There are four different types of strokes. One type or stroke is the freestyle. This stroke is the fastest and easiest stroke. It is the fastest stroke because of the angle of your arms. For most people this is the easiest stroke to learn because it is similar to walking. Another name for this stroke is called the crawl. When you do the freestyle stroke you should feel like you body got longer. The water level should come your eyebrows and hairline. Your legs should move in an up and down motion with a rhythmic motion. You also must make sure you strokes are not sloppy. |
| Many people like this stroke because it is very fun to watch. This stroke is harder than the previous ones. The butterfly and breaststroke are a lot alike. Your body moves in a wave motion. You do this stroke with your legs and arms straight. Both of your legs arms are tighter. Your arms should move in an S shape. |

The breast stroke is one of the oldest strokes. This is the fastest in completive levels. Your arms move underwater throughout the entire stroke both arms move together lining out your heart. Keep your head steady with your chin jutting slightly. |
| Another type of stroke is the backstroke. Many people like this stroke because it is the easiest to breath. Another name for this stroke is called the crawl. You lie on your back and move your shoulders like a windmill while your legs move in an up and down motion. When you do the backstroke you bend your arms slightly before you take it out of water again. To improve your backstroke keep your back straight and pretend you are sitting in the water. You should also keep your legs moving during the whole race. You should keep your knees bent slightly and kick 1 1/2 feet below the water. |
