

Most snowboards are made of laminate. A laminate is a layer of wood strips glued together. Laminate boards are strong, they last longer than boards made from plastic or a single piece of wood. Some of the newer boards are made with a combination of laminate and some man-made elements
There are three different types of boards, the mountain board, the slalom board, and the freestyle board. The mountain board is used for carving down a mountain. they have a straight edge. the slalom boards are used for racing. they are long and rigid. In a slalom race two boarders try to go as fast as they can while going through side by side set of poles.

The racer must go through each pole, or gate without falling or missing a pole. If they miss a pole they are out of the race.
the length of the freestyle board is determined by the experience and the height of the rider. The freestyle boards are rounded on both sides.
The freestyle board is most popular of the boards, it is used for all around riding an for performing tricks.

It has soft bindings and soft boots for flexibility when the half pipe. the mountain and the slalom boards are not normally used for performing tricks on the half pipe.

The snowboard is measured in centimeters. They vary in length from one hundred and ten centimeters to one hundred and eighty centimeters.
The snowboard also comes in different widths. it is very important to find the right width for you. you don't want your toes or your heels to hang off the edge of the board. But you also don't want a board to be too wide. if it is too wide for you it will make it much harder to steel
