Grooming is important.  Not only to the appearance of your dog, but to the health of it as well. 

 Some breeds of dogs will need a vet trip if they go several months without bathing.  You  should bathe your dog at least once a month.  But, to prevent unpleasant odors, you could bathe them tri-weekly. 

Grooming may also involve a haircut, depending on the length of your dog's coat.  

If your dog's eyes have a tendency to run, then you will need to wipe them whenever it is needed.  

Your dog will also need his claws clipped.  If your dog has a problem with this, you will need to take him to the vet to get it done.  If he doesn't, you can do it yourself, but you must be very careful not to clip the cuticles.
