Cheerleading uniforms haven't change dramatically , but they are definitely different from when cheerleading was originated in 776 B.C. Uniforms  have been changing since the 1920's. Pictured to the right. Back then they were normally one piece dresses and they were required to wear gloves. Today's uniforms usually have many school-related colors and you aren't required to wear gloves. The shirts are normally V-necks, and some older cheerleaders have shorted vests showing their mid-riff. Usually for the Professional football cheerleaders. Cheerleading shoes have changed alot since the start of cheerleading. They used to wear brown leather shoes with approximately 1/2 inch heel on the back. Now cheerleaders wear white tennis shoes with their team colors on the side, and they have to be tied tightly.

Wearing tight clothing is essential because when tumbling neat, clean lines look better, and when doing stunts the spotters need to worry about catching the flyer without worrying about getting their hands twisted or tied into someone else's clothing.
