The Westie was bred to hunt rats, mice, and other rodents on ships. This is a great job for them because they love water. This breed usually weighs about 19-23 pounds. The life expectancy for the West Highland White terrier is a relatively small dog so they do live longer than larger breeds. Their life expectancy is 13 to 17 years.
Housebreaking can be a hard task for you and your puppy. But hitting a puppy will just make the situation worse. If you do not have the time or patience to housetrain, consider buying an adult dog.
