This loyal and sturdy breed has won the hearts of many breeders and enthusiasts worldwide. It is one of my personal favorites, due to its wonderful personality and majestic appearance.

The German Shepherd Dog is recognized by the AKC as a herding dog, but it does so much more. It also can be a police dog, a watchdog, a guard dog, a guide dog, and a search-and-rescue dog. It also makes a wonderful companion.
The colors of the German Shepherd are usually tan with a black "saddle," but blacks, black and silver, and black and red are also accepted. However, Blues, livers, and other washed-out colors are seen as faults.
The white-colored shepherd, shown to the left, is not recognized by the AKC. It is, however, its own breed in the UKC.
In this breed, males can be 24 - 26 inches and females can be 22 - 24 inches. They weigh 75 - 90 pounds.
This breed has a tendency to get certain diseases and conditions such as bloat, hip dysplasia,  skin disease and congenial heart disease.
