Most kangaroos live in Australia. They are marsupials. Which means they carry their young in a pouch. Kangaroo babies are called joeys.

Once a kangaroo is born it crawls into its mothers pouch to nurse.  It stays there for weeks or months. After a joey leaves, another baby can be born within a day.
There are several species of kangaroos.  All kangaroos are most active at night. They normally rest during daylight hours.

Red kangaroos live in groups called mobs. A mob usually has two to ten animals.  Also, red kangaroos use their two back legs for leaping and hopping.  The tail is like a rudder for balance during leaps.
Australia is home to most marsupials.  While the United States is only home to one marsupial the opossum.

A male kangaroo is called a buck or a boomer.  A female kangaroo is called a doe or flyer.  A baby kangaroo is called a joey.
Kangaroos have good eyesight but will only respond to moving objects.  They also have very  good hearing.

I just told you about the red kangaroo but there is also the Eastern gray kangaroo.  They can be brown or gray.
