Maine Coons were brought to Main in the 1850's from New England.  They are the Maine state cat.

This breed is very playful and are good with other animals and children.

They come in a large variety of colors and sizes.  Their meow is very soft and sounds like chirping.

The Maine Coon has a long, fluffy tail.  Also, they have long, thick, silky, water-resistant fur and very large paws, eyes, and ears.

In the first cat show ever held in the United States, the Maine Coon was named "Best Cat".

Maine Coons grow up and develop very slowly.  They don't reach their full size until they ate three to five years old.

They are recognized for their excellent skills in catching mice.
