Housebreaking

When training any dog to do anything, always expect your Toy Fox Terrier to make mistakes. When your dog is very young, start out by taking it out every hour. Make sure to pet and encourage your dog after doing its "duty". If your dog does a "duty" indoors, take your dog to the spot of the "accident" and verbally scold at it. The dog will learn it did something bad. Be sure not to scold too long or nag your TFT. Eventually less intervals outside will be needed when your dog learns to control itself. When this happens, less mistakes will occur indoors. Also remember that all dogs learn at different rates. Most dogs should be housebroken by five months, meaning it will be totally clean inside the house. Make sure you train your dog to do its "duties" in the grass outdoors, not on pavement, and make sure you pick-up the "presents". Point out your dog's mistakes every time. The best phrase to use when scolding is "bad dog". Never forget to praise your dog either though by saying "good dog".
