Demodectic Mange

Demodectic Mange is a common skin disease of dogs caused by a microscopic parasitic mite. Dogs with nemodicosis mites spread in large numbers to inhabit skin and hair follicles. Puppies may come in contact with the mites from their mother two to three days after birth. The juvenile onset of demodicosis generally occurs in dogs three to thirteen months in age, but the adult onset occurs in dogs five years of age or older. Localized demodicosis is the mildest form of this disease. Sometimes hair loss occurs on the head or front legs. Most dogs with localized demodicosis recover fully. Treatment for this disease can be anywhere from applying ointment to the infected area to dipping the entire dog, depending on the case. Plan to visit your vet for the right treatment.

Patellar Luxation

Patellar Luxation is the dislocation of the kneecap (patella) in dogs. The knee may dislocate towards the inside (medial) or outside (lateral) of the leg or in both directions. Patellar Luxation may be the outcome of an injury, or the Toy Fox Terrier may be born with. It is also possible for both legs to be affected. Crippling effects of patellar luxation depends on the severity. Mild forms, especially in small breeds show little signs and little treatment is required. The more severe, the pain is more intense, including a limp. Treatment may be more rest or surgical reconstruction of the knee joint depending on the severity.
