Snowboarding dates back to the 1960's.  Sherman Poppen developed it from skiing.  His daughter tested it and called it The Snurfer.  Tom Sims and Jake Burton developed it more.  It started to grow more and more popular.

Snowboarding has different equipment from other sports.  Special boots and bindings  are needed.  Boards are long and have steel edges.  They are made out of fiberglass.  Coats need to be warm but flexible.  Boots for snowboarding are different because riders need support.

There are lots of techniques to snowboarding.  Falling backwards, carving, s-curves, and goofy foot are just some.  Techniques are all snowboarding is.

Snowboarding competitions are held all over the country and in others.  The first big competitions for snowboarding were  in the 80's.  Some competitions are all about tricks and style, but in others, racers can get up to 70MPH in a race.

The sport of snowboarding, is riding  a board down a hill over snow.
