Snowboarding began in the mid-1960's by Sherman Poppen.  He called it the snurfer. All it was were two skies straped together and a rope on the front.  His daughter tested it and loved it.  It got more and more popular and people started to improve it.

This is a picture of an old Burton Backhill.  This board is from the late 60's.

Lots of boards were made in the 60's.  It took a lot of time and effort to get to the point were snowboards are today.

Jake Burton and Tom sims were famous for improving and riding snowboards.  They experimented with new shapes and ways to ride.  At first snowboarders didn't have places to go so the boarded on ski slopes.  This caused problems between skiers and snowboarders.  skiers thought that snowboarding tore up ski slopes.  Snowboarders finally got a places to go and skiers got there way.
