| Snowboarding competition didn't come around until the mid 70's. Pro competition takes lots of skill. There are three main competitions: Half-pipe, racing, Slalom, and Slope-style |
|
| Slope-style is a down hill course filled with jumps and rails. The object is to do as many tricks as possible while getting to the end before time runs out. The scoring is the same as half-pipe. | ![]() |

Half-pipe courses look like giant pipes with the top cut off. The half-pipe runs slightly down hill. The contenders are usually timed. They are usually scored on style, amount of tricks, difficulty of tricks, and skill of the rider. |
| Racing is just like other races except it is on snow. They are mostly on mountains. First one to the bottom or the finish line wins. Race courses are filled with obstacles and turns. In some races, contenders can go speeds of 70MPH. | ![]() |

Slalom is almost like racing, but competitors have to turn to the inside of flags. The flags are usually placed so it is hard for a racer to maneuver around. Scoring is based on how many flags you get and how many you didn't. |
