Cleaning Ears-  Ears should be free of wax and dirt.  To do so: First, hold open an ear with one hand and gently clean inside the flap with a small piece of moistened cotton.  Use a fresh piece for each ear.

Nail Trimming-  Spread apart each of the dogs toes on each foot and inspect the area between each toe.  Clean away any dirt or debris with moistened cotton.  Then, clip the nails carefully.  Smooth any rough edges with a nail file or emery board.  And remember to trim the dog's dewclaws if it has them.

Brushing and Cleaning Teeth-  Check  the dog's teeth and gums once a week.  Make sure there are no signs of gum infection or tartar build-up on the teeth since this can lead to gingivitis and tenderness.  Gently brush the teeth with a soft toothbrush and use either diluted salt water or a special canine toothpaste from your vet.

Grooming a Smooth Coat-  Beagles don't need a lot of grooming but should be brushed regularly.  First, use a rubber brush or hound glove to loosen any dead hair and surface dirt.  Then, brush with a bristle brush to remove dead hair and skin.  Cover entire coat, head to tail.  Lastly, briskly polish coat with a chamois cloth to bring  out a shine.
