The tail is strong, short, and carried erect but not curled forward.

The size of the beagle is small so it makes it a popular breed for medical research.  Height: 13-15 inches (33-38 cm).

The feet are round, with arched toes and big, solid pads.

The coat is short, dense and waterproof in any true hound color.

The head is broad, dome-shaped, with a well- defined stop dividing it half way.

The legs are muscular with straight forelegs, and parallel hind legs.

The ears are long, flat and fine.  They are carried slightly forward.

The nose is black with broad nostrils.

The eyes are dark brown or hazel and are large and round.  The expression should be alert and appealing.

The muzzle is squarish and narrow with well spaced teeth.

The beagles temperment is good natured, active, happy dogs, but can be willful and need firm handling.
