San Francisco also known as "The Bay City" is located along the northern coast of California.  The climate is relatively cold, in the 40's and 50's with a lot of fog.  San Francisco is a well visited area known for its beautiful bay thriving fishing industry and other tourists sites.

Cable Cars like the one shown about were introduced to San Francisco in 1873 by Andrew Hallidie.  The cable cars are a vital part to the transportation system because of the steep hilly terrain that makes up the city of San Francisco.  There are 600 cars that cover about 52.8 miles. Cable cars operate 7 days a week and are used by both tourist and commuters.  Both riders must pay a toll in order to ride on the cable cars.

The Golden Gate Bridge (above to the right) connects San Francisco with Marin County.  The 1.2 mile bridge was built in 1937.  It was a total of 35 million dollars to build and cost many men their lives during the construction of this massive bridge.  Walking across the entire bridge would take about an hour round trip. Many people decide to veture across the giant bridge just to say they have done it.

Pictured above is Coit Tower stands 210 feet tall atop Telegraph Hill.  It was built by a lady named Lillie Coit in honor of her admiration for the San Francisco firefighters in the 1906 devastating earthquake fires.  Coit tower is now mostly a tourist attraction inside you can visit some of the museums inside the tower.
Alkatraz as seen above is a 12 acre island that in the 1930's became an infamous high-security prison, for mafia criminals and convicts.  There is no evidence that anyone ever escaped from the island across the freezing bay.  In 1936 it shut down and is now a major tourist attraction.

San Francisco has a very big fishing industry, that the economy depends on.  A well visited fishing area would be Fisherman's Warf.  There you will find the fishing fleet docked in the harbor.  Along the streets you will see Ghirardelli  Square the home of the world famous chocolate factory.  Fisherman's Warf is also well known for its many seafood restaurants and vendors who sell and steam crab along the streets.
