JC was born in Washington, DC , on August 8,1976. The family moved to Maryland. Growing up JC played a lot of football and basketball and he loved to sing and dance. A friend of the family offered JC a chance to Audition for The Mickey Mouse Club and he got in.

When lance was 11 years old his family moved form their hometown of laurel, Mississippi, to the nearby town of Clinton. in the seventh grade lance joined his schools chorus, and a year later he auditioned for, and won, a spot in the statewide chorus.
