Lovebirds have to be held. They can actually die if they get too lonely or are not played with enough! If the bird tries to bite your finger, while you're picking him/her up, be careful not to yell. This may not be an attempt to hurt you. This may actually be an attempt to get on your finger, because they don't have hands they use their beaks to lift them selves onto high places, or to hold on. |

These birds love to slide down poles, and climb on perches. When getting a cage for your Lovebird you need to make sure that you are recognizing the needs and talents of your bird. Lovebirds need to have toys and perches and even mirrors just like you and me. If you're a person who goes out a lot then you should probably buy a few perches, swings and toys to keep him/her occupied. |

Lovebirds like to come out and spread their wings. A great way to play with your Lovebird is to simply let him/her out and he/she can fly around. If they are cooped up in their cages all day then they may become attached to their cages and bite when you reach in or try to take them out. |

Sitting on a perch makes them feel proud. Lovebirds love to be above you. It makes them feel in control. That's why they always fly to the highest place/window. In their natural habitat being high makes them feel superior to the other birds and protected. These birds also love to swing. A wooden swing in their cages is a great idea because they can be high and stretch their wings. |
