The reason that we swim in swim meets are so that we can show off all the hard work we do and to improve our times. Meets can be scary because you are nervous because you have to swim in front of a lot of people. Meets can also be fun because all of your friends are there and you get to hang out all day long. There are normally 4 sessions at a meet. Saturday morning and afternoon and Sunday morning and afternoon. The morning sessions are from 7am until 12pm and the afternoon session is from 12pm until 6pm. There are meets that are short coarse pools and there also is long coarse pools (double the short coarse pool).  There are meets that are inside and there are meets that are outside. Before you swim you always have to warm up. The reason for warming up is so that you muscles are nice and stretched before you swim. Also before you swim you should stretch. As you see the picture below at the right the girl is stretching.

There are a lot of events that you can swim at a swim meet. Some events that you can swim are: 50 (2 lengths of the pool) free, 50 fly, 50 back, 50 breast, 100 (4 lengths) free, 100 back, 100 fly, 100 breast, 100 IM, 200 (8 lengths) free, 200 back, 200 breast, 200 fly, 200 IM, 400 (16 lengths) IM, 500 (20 lengths) free, 1000 (40 lengths) free, and 1650 (66 lengths) free. For the kids of 8 years and younger they have the choice to swim 25's (1 length) of each stroke. The IM stroke is when you swim each stroke in the race. For example in a 100 IM you would swim 25 fly, 25 back, 25 breast, 25 free. That's the same for the 200 IM and the 400 IM except for the 200 you swim two lengths of each stroke and for the 400 you swim four. There are a lot of events you can swim, but you can only swim 4 events a day. Also you can be in a relay. They have relays that are all free and relays that are IM. You don't get to choose to be in a relay your coach puts you in one. For the free relay every body swims free. In the IM relay the order is back, breast, fly, free.
