With speed, agility, precision, and accuracy, the Midfielders on the team must be able to run quickly up and down the field many times. The Midfield position is part offense and part defense depending upon which team has the ball. One Midfielder for each team takes the face-off to start the game and takes the face-offs after goals scored.
Even in an awkward position, or even if falling to the ground, the Midfielders should keep their eyes up to watch for an open man to pass to and should still attempt to get a good pass off.
The Midfielders should be able to move the ball down field quickly and accurately and should be not only be accurate with their passing but agile and quick if they must run the ball down the field.
For a face-off, what's known as a long-stick or long-pole Middie can be played to try to help get the ball and possession for his team.
The Midfielders should always know where the ball is, who has the ball, and where the man they are guarding is. Even when passing or running the ball down the field the Midfielders should keep their eyes open for an open man on their team but should also have a good sense of where the Defenders are.
A Midfielder must always remain at most one stick-length from his man that he is guarding or else that player will get open for an easy pass or will take the ball down field to pass to one of his teammates or get a shot off.
