There are many styles of riding. They are all used very widely. Here are a few.

When you go to a bmx track and race. The main concept of racing is speed. You have to know how to pump well. You also have to be good at riding berms.

Street riding is where bmx began, other then the race track. It consisted of endos and wheelies, it has to be more modern and has a wider variety of tricks. It now mainly consists of manuals, grinds, and gaps. Street can be very technical, or very sketchy, depending on your skill.

Dirt is mounds of dirt made into jumps, very similar to racing only you perform tricks and go for height and length not for speed

.

Flatland uses a parking lot. You use big grip pegs and do a bunch of maneuvers linked together. Making it very hard and complicated.

Park is what you will most likely see on TV. It is basically a skate park. It requires skill in all areas and a little experience.

Vert riding is for big air. You ride in a half pipe and do tricks over the coping. It takes alot of time and practice. They usually have a half pipe at every park, but not all the time.
