BMX began in the 1980s when a movie called RAD came out and all the neighbor hood kids tried to mimic the riders in the movie. They'd go riding a pull "wheelies" and would try to be like the movie riders. They would come home with mangled balls of aluminum. So companies such as Schwinn and later GT. They started to make bike more intended for the type of riding they would be doing. Bmx has developed from wheelie riding to what it is today.
