Dolphins evolved from wolf like animals about the size of a dog 50 million years ago.
When a dolphin sleeps, only half of the brain rests.  To allow the dolphin to function normally, the other half stays awake.  Then they switch.
Bottlenosed dolphins are studied the most by scientist because they like to live inshore.  They like to be stroked on the side or belly, not on forehead.  You may be lucky to touch one!
Dolphins can communicate through barks, groans, chirps, and whistles.
Some types of dolphins swim in herds of hundreds and thousands.
Most live just over ten years.
Older females may have a spot on their back.
Even though dolphins live in the water, they breathe air through blowholes.
