
Officials are very essential to all sports. They keep it from getting out of hand. There even more important to making sure no one gets hurt. For football there are 7 officials on the field to enforce to rules. They all have spots on the field that they watch and enforce.

This signal is holding. It means someone on the offence was holding a defensive player so he couldn't make a play. |
| This signal is for offside. It means someone on the defense crossed the line of scrimmage before the ball was hiked. |

This signal is for illegal motion. This means someone on the offence moved before the ball was hiked or two or more people went in motion at the same time. |
| This signal is for first down. It means that either the offense went at least 10 yards for a first down or that the defense got the ball and its there first down. |

This signal is for a safety. It means that the offensive man that had the ball got tackled in the end zone. |

This object right here is called a penalty flag. It is thrown by an official when he spots a foul. The officials fill the end of the bag with unpopped popcorn seeds so it will go down to the ground were they threw it. |
| Officials throw this small bean at the ground were the spot of a fumble or interception to signal a turnover. The play will still go on and the bag will be picked up later. They help to calculate the distance of and return of the turnover. The number on the bean bag identifies the ref who threw it. |
