| Figure Skating has been around for many years, in fact, it's been around
for over 1,000 years! It began as a convenient way of getting from place
to place around the harsh winter terrain, and it has developed into a
competitive, interesting and beautiful sport that people take an interest
in. The skates and costumes themselves have gone through dramatic changes.
From a carved bone to a steel blade and from long, fitted dresses to
smaller, more flowing costumes that allow for movement, there have been
major improvements and technology has developed.
