In the 1990 1991 season Lemieux led the Penguins to their first ever Stanley cup Championship. They beat the Minnesota in 6 games, winning the sixth 8-0.
The Penguins won the cup yet again in 1991 1992 beating the Chicago Blackhawks despite Lemieux playing with an injured wrist due to a slash across the hand by Adam Graves of the Rangers. Mario and the Pens swept the Chicago Blackhawks in 4 games.
