Freestyle is one of the four strokes of swimming.  There are many events involving only freestyle.  The techniques of swimming the freestyle are simple enough. You must be able to coordinate kicking and pulling the water .

The events for freestyle are the 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, and the 1650.  For the many swimmers who do not like long distance swimming the first 3 are some of the most preferred.

As seen in this picture, a swimmer is coming up from a dive.  In order to get the best time in swimming your turns must be very fast and you must remain underwater until u have at least taken three strokes... then you can start race to the other side of the pool where you will either be done with your event, or you will do a flip turn and continue your race until you are finished and have won.

freestyle, although it may be the easiest stroke to master, it is one of the hardest to be the best at.  It is referred to as " the sprint stroke" and is in my opinion is the most difficult.

Below is a picture of 6 swimmers diving off of the starting blocks.  You must be able to do a front dive ( as seen in the picture ) for 3 of the four events, freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly.  For the backstroke you must be able to stand up ( while holding onto the block ) and then dive backwards into the water.

Freestyle is my best stroke. I am more of a sprinter swimmer because I have a lot of energy. Freestyle is the fastest stroke too. To swim freestyle you can actually swim anything you want as long as you don't pull on the ropes, walls or stand on the bottom of the pool. The fastest way to swim freestyle. is the kick is that the kick is the same way as backstroke only on your stomach. Your arms move in a circular motion. Just like backstroke your arms should be at the opposite ends of the cycle. The cycle is your arms come out of the water with high elbows and then enter hand first. Next they come in and drive them out of the water. You need to rotate your shoulder when doing this stroke. That is how you swim freestyle.
