Waldorf, Maryland isn't known for anything big, some people haven't even heard of it. On Christmas Eve 1995 twins Benji and Joel Madden (16, then) life went from bad to worse, when their dad left their family. Instead of doing things teens do, they worried about making money to help support their family. In early 1996, the twins started to do things teens are suppose to do by going to a Beastie Boys concert. Seeing the Beastie Boys inspired Benji and Joel to start a band. |

| The boys started to write music and taught themselves how to play the guitar. They befriended a younger boy named Paul Thomas. The three boys made the band Good Charlotte (GC), as Joel being the singer, Benji the guitarist and Paul as the bassist. They didn't care about anything else but the band. Benji failed a few classes because he read about how to get a record label instead of how to get into college. Benji and Joels life consisted of going to school, then to work, come home and stay up till 3:00 am writing music. After they graduated the band moved to Annapolis, Maryland and added another guitarist Billy Martin. | |||
