Gene Kelly was born on August 23, 1912 in the Highland Park district in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He was the second youngest of five children.  Fred, James, Louise, Gene, and Harriet Joan.  The family used to do amateur vaudeville together.  When he was still in school, Gene wanted to be a professional baseball player for the Pittsburgh Pirates.  He attended the University of Pittsburgh.  Together Gene and his brother Fred went in to vaudeville acts as the "Kelly Brothers". In the 1930s and 1940s, Gene Kelly was one of the biggest motion pictures stars in America.  He married three times and had three children from two of his wives them. On February 2, 1996, Eugene Curran Kelly died of a series of strokes.
