The elvish term for brotherhood of wizards id "Istari."  Wizards are one if the greatest  beings of all out of all the land in Middle- earth.  You can tell by their tall hats, long robes, and the strange staffs they carry.  The Isitari is distinguished by a different color.  The wizard Saruman wears white to show he is in highest power.  He's known as Saruman the White.  Gandalf, another wizard, is known as Gandalf the Grey.

Gandalf the Grey

	Gandalf is a good wizard who has special power and is a friend of the hobbits.  He is very fond of the hobbits and he comes around to the Shire from time to time to see his old friend, Bilbo Baggins.  He islargly known as a wandering conjuror, a blower of smoke rings and setting off fireworks.
He is able to wield potent magic and knows a lot about Middle- earth's history and it's people.  Gandalf is the one who leads the Fellowship out of Rivendell to begin their quest.  Gandalf has a great temptation to use this One Ring.  But if he were to use the Ring, even if it was for a good purpose, it would add to his strength and create a force too great and too terrible to imagine.

Saruman the White

Saurman the White, Lord of Isengard, is the greatest wizard in the Istari brotherhood.  He put a lot of study into the Rings of power and the Ruling Ring.  He wants to use the Ring and try to make the best use of it against the Dark Lord.  But then he suddenly he joined forces with the Dark Lord and is trying everything to get the Ring.

Saurman lives in Orthanc, which is a tower made out of unbreakable black obsidian.  The tower of Orthanc stands at the heart of Isengard.  It has a strange fortress that lies in a position between the Misty Mountains and the Gap of Rohan.  Isengard is the home to the rare seeing stones.  The palantir is a great ball of a black stone which the wizard is able to spy on the whereabouts and fortunes of his enemies and allies of Middle -earth.
