Legolas

	Many of you seem to know him as Legolas in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. "Viggo will go on about Elves and how they're always doing their nails and brushing their long, blonde hair, and being all prissy. And I just say: Well, at least I'm going to live forever! Got that? LIVE FOREVER!
Orlando Bloom played Legolas (Greenleaf) in the award winning movie The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and the soon to be released The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
	Orlando was told by Peter Jackson, the director of The Lord of the Rings, just two days before he graduated from Guildhall School of Music and Drama that Orlando had gotten the role as Legolas. "When I found out I had the role it was a surreal moment. Amazing."
The next 18 months Orlando spent over in New Zealand, shooting all 3 movie scenes for The Lord of the Rings. He had to wear a long, blonde wig and blue contacts to complete the look of Legolas. He also had to do some training, he studied Akira Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai for his walk, bow and arrow for archery, horse-riding, swordplay, and paddle-training.
	Because of the success of the movie, Orlando became instantly popular and won "Best Breakthrough Performance" in the 2001 Internet Movie Awards, the "Best Debut" at the 2002 Empire Awards, the "Best Breakthrough Male Performance" at the 2002 MTV Movie Awards, and interviewed by many magazines.

"I got to dress up in funny clothes and run around New Zealand with a bow and arrow for 18 months, how bad could that be?"

"As soon as I got to New Zealand, I went bungee jumping. I was standing on the platform for one hour contemplating whether to jump or not."

"The first thing they did was put a bow in my hand! I started training with a bow and arrow in order to get archery going And horse-riding training. And then swordplay. And paddle training."

"I mean, I have a great job. I get to dress up and become somebody else, especially when it's somebody like Legolas, who's this super-cool kind of otherworldly elf. It's like, I'm lucky, man, so why would I not appreciate that?"

"The girls have got a bit excited. So I spoke to my agent and she says she's wading through the fan mail. We've got bags of it."
