The game of soccer was first played by the Romans in Derby, England.

In 1823 Rugby came into play. Soccer didn't like the rule that they were allowed to use their hands. Then, after 1823 soccer was called "association soccer" to make out the difference between rugby and soccer.

After soccer was called "association soccer," the Europeans Continued to call the game "football." In 1913 a new sport called football was supposed to govern the "association football." The "association football" was changed to soccer. In 1945 the game was in a governing body called United States Soccer Federation (USSF). Now, the game is still known at soccer.
